An industry cluster for the manufacturing of major industrial equipments has taken shape at the QETDZ. This industry cluster takes Harbin Power Station Equipment Group (Qinhuangdao) Heavy Equipment Co., Ltd., Tianwei Baobian (Qinhuangdao) Transformer Co., Ltd., Shanhaiguan Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd., and Qinye Heavy Industry Group as its key enterprises, supported by a complete range of component suppliers including GE-HPEC-NTC Energy Services （Qinhuangdao）, Wukuang Tianwei (Qinhuangdao) Steel Co., Ltd., Steel Products Processing Allocation Center of the Shougang Group and Qinhuangdao Power Equipment Logistics Co., Ltd. In this respect, core products at the QETDZ include bridge construction, railway turnouts, shipbuilding and repair, power supply, power transmission and transformation equipment, large-size metallurgical valve and construction machinery for road and railway transport, etc.

1. Location and port logistics
Situated at the heart of the Bohai-Rim Economic Circle, Qinhuangdao serves as a bond connecting northeastern China with the rest of the country and a northern gateway to the Pacific for northwestern Chinese cities. To its north, across the Bohai Sea, lie Japan and South Korea, two economic powers in Asia. The city is, therefore, blessed with unique, unparalleled geographical conditions.

The Qinhuangdao Port, as one of the largest seaports in the world, has 50 berths, 29 of which are designated for production purposes, with an annual throughput in excess of 250 million tons. Its branch at the Shanhaiguan District is equipped with two 35,000-tonner berths. A specialized seaport: the port base of the Harbin Power Station Equipment Group (Qinhuangdao) has a 3000-ton berth designed for the shipping of large equipments. It is equipped with a 600-ton gantry crane, suitable for lifting goods of up to 1000 tons.

With a total area of 200 mu (approximately 13.34 hectares), Qinhuangdao Power Equipment Logistics Co., Ltd., a subsidiary funded by the Harbin Power Equipment Logistics Co., Ltd., has established itself as a professional logistic service provider for industrial equipment manufacturers—those specialized in the production of power equipments in particular.

Qinhuangdao is home to many specialist metal rolling service providers, including Qinhuangdao Shougang Plate Co., Ltd., Qinhuangdao Shouqin Metal Material Co., Ltd., and Alcoa Bohai Aluminum Industries Co., Ltd. Also, thanks to a large number of renowned iron and steel complexes at surrounding cities, e.g. Beijing, Tangshan, Benxi and Anshan, local equipment manufacturers in Qinhuangdao will benefit from a highly cost-effective supply of steel and aluminum materials. The equipment manufacturing industry in China is currently undergoing an upgrading process—a period characterized by strategic opportunities. In view of this, the QETDZ, represented by major port-based enterprises, e.g. Harbin Power Station Equipment Group (Qinhuangdao) Heavy Equipment Co., Ltd., Tianwei Baobian (Qinhuangdao) Transformer Co., Ltd. and Shanhaiguan Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd., is making vigorous efforts to attract investment in equipment manufacturing, with its primary priority being given to 1000MW nuclear island equipments, super-large 500KV+ transformers, large wind turbines, shipbuilding, equipments for marine oil engineering, seawater desalination equipments, construction machinery, large environmental equipments and numerical control systems. In so doing, we seek to build the QETDZ into the largest seaport manufacturing base of major industrial equipments in the Hebei Province.
