With dozens of glass processors (e.g. Qinhuangdao Aoge Group Co., Ltd., Qinhuangdao NorthMingjing Glass Co., Ltd., Qinhuangdao Xinhua Glass Processing Co., Ltd., and Qinhuangdao High-tech Energy-saving Dorwin Co., Ltd.) each fulfilling separate, but complementary, industrial functions, the QETDZ offers investors a fully-developed, well-coordinated glass building material industry cluster, encompassing all necessary production and marketing stages, ranging from raw glass production and intensive processing to the manufacturing of glass equipments and marketing and after-sales services, etc.

1. Location and port logistics
Situated at the heart of the Bohai-Rim Economic Circle, Qinhuangdao is well-known all across the country as an important transportation center in northern China and a gateway to the Pacific for northeastern, northern and northwestern Chinese cities. To its north, across the Bohai Sea, lie Japan and South Korea, two economic powers in Asia. The city is, therefore, blessed with unique, unparalleled geographical conditions.

2. Industrial foundation
As the birthplace of China’s glass industry and the first plate glass production base in Asia, Qinhuangdao has long established itself as a national leader in glass production and processing in terms of business scope, diversity and technical standard. Apart from major Chinese glass producers such as Yaohua Glass Group Corporation and Qinhuangdao Aoge Group Co., Ltd., it is home to a state-level glass research and design institute, a technology center for glass enterprises, centers for post-doctorate studies and a national center for glass quality control and test, thus giving rise to a complete glass industrial system, integrating glass product research and development, engineering, production and intensive processing. In particular, following the construction of the world-class garden-style hi-tech glass industry park (with ten advanced production lines, of which six are designed for float glass products, two for borosilicate glass and one for TFT-LCD glass substrate and amorphous silicon solar cell each) in June 2008, the city is now in an even stronger strategic position to become China’s largest production base of energy-saving building glass, innovative energy-efficient glass and reinforced heat/fire-proof glass products.

3. Human resources
Qinhuangdao Glass Research and Design Institute, the largest Chinese research and design institute for plate glass products and one of the inventors of the “Luoyang float glass” technique, is widely known as the only research organization in China which is specialized in all aspects of the glass production process, namely, glass research, design, manufacturing and quality supervision. The Qinhuangdao-based Hebei Building Material Vocational School, the only Chinese school thus named, has so far supplied over 40,000 glass professionals of various levels for China’s building material industry. In addition, glass enterprises in Qinhuangdao are assured of a sustainable supply of suitably qualified professionals to meet their demand for human resources, thanks to the teaching excellence of 13 local higher education institutions, including the Yanshan University and the Northeastern University.

1. Glass production and intensive processing
Products selected for prioritized development: special glass products, e.g. glass-ceramics and vycor glass; products with special functions, e.g. on-line coated low-emissivity glass, TFT-LCD glass substrates, energy-saving glass and new energy-efficient glass products; ultra-thin/thick glass, direct-melting glass and electronic fiberglass. The QETDZ will be developed into a world-class, fully-equipped and large-scale glass production base.

2. New building materials
Development priority is given to the following products: opto-electrical glass curtain wall, glass-reinforced steel, fiberglass door/window, thistle board and lightweight steel structure.
